Week of August 8, 2021
General: We continue to get back in the swing of school. Students and staff are getting back in their routines. We all know this is a tough transition for some students as they get used to face-to-face instruction, time with peers, and adjusting to school life. We continue to encourage all students to advocate for themselves if they have any needs. They have resources on campus, and we have resources in place to help families. Please reach out!
Workday (No School for Students): Friday (8/20) is our first professional development day of the year. School is closed for all students! We hope families can enjoy a long weekend and time to recharge!
Heat: We faced several days of excessive heat last week. Adjustments were made to outdoor recess as needed. We thank Coach Eason and Bowman for helping monitor the heat!
Face Coverings: Our Board extended the REQUIREMENT for face masks. All students, staff, and visitors are REQUIRED to wear a face mask. The mask must cover both your mouth and nose.
Curriculum Supply Fund Reminder: As we return to full-time face-to-face instruction for the 2021-22 school year, your continued support of the classroom teacher and the resources they need to support your child's learning continue to be a priority for us all. As a K-12 community, we are asking your family to be an active participant in the Curriculum Support Fund to help support and enhance the learning opportunities for all students. There is a tiered level of support starting at $50.00 per student. If a family has more than one student, it is $25 for each additional student with a family maximum of $100.00. My School Bucks, our online payment system, has been updated and is ready to take payments. There will be payment options to break the cost up over multiple months. 100% of your family's investment in your child's education will go to the classroom. Thank you for your continued support.
The Curriculum Support Fund is used to support and enhance classroom learning opportunities that include subscriptions and consumable items that your child will use.
Repeat Information from past messages
COVID Dashboard: We post a daily DASHBOARD on FB, website, and Twitter. We post K-8 and 9-12 current results. Our five-county service area has returned to the "HIGH RISK" category for community transmission of COVID 19. Our current mask mandate has helped the school combat the spread and reduce the number of students facing quarantine.
Yearbook: 2021 yearbooks are available to purchase for those who did not order one last school year. They are $55 and can be purchased at the elementary school front desk. If writing a check, please make it out to East Wake Academy. If you have any questions, please contact Dena Coward directly – dcoward@eastwakeacademy.org
HS Carpool: Please do not arrive on Industrial Drive until after 3:30 each day. Please listen to the ZPD officer. They are on campus to help and support carpool.
Repeated information from August 1, 2021
Our goal is to have every student on campus and fully engaged. We did have a few COVID cases hit campus. We used DHHS guidance to contact trace. The key we found was WEARING A FACE MASK! (Helped with the number of students that had to quarantine!) Families that were impacted were notified, and their grade level teams will support quarantined students. General information will/has also been shared with affected classes or grade levels.
Families have done a great job of keeping students at home if they are showing any symptoms. This practice will help keep everyone safe! If your child is sick, please let your homeroom teacher know. Please include Mrs. Dove (sdove@eastwakeacademy.org).
Carpool: Carpool has had a good start. As we reminded families, it does take time to work all the kinks out – you have done well! A few reminders:
1. Morning carpool – Elementary: Please do not double up the line until passing the ROCK. We have several high school drivers that park on the "264" end of campus. The open outside lane allows them to park and get to class on time. In the afternoon, please double up as soon as you can!
2. If you come through the line and your child is not at the pickup station. Please pull away and do one of two things:
a. You can go to the dumpster area and turn around. A staff member will bring you back into line. They also RECALL your child's number so they will come out.
b. You can park and walk up to the gym. Bring your carpool tag.
Uniforms: Please review the uniform policy located on our website. Go ahead and get haircuts scheduled and get the hair color back to "natural" (meaning the color does grow out of your head and not from a bottle!).
Supply Lists: Please see website – posted under the parent tab
WINGS: Yes – WINGS is OPEN! Would you please visit the website or send questions to Mrs. Henry (ahenry@eastwakeacademy.org)
