K-4 Families,
Hello and welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We are so excited for our 25th anniversary year. For returning families, we can’t wait to see you and your students back on campus. For families new to EWA, we are looking forward to getting to know your student(s) and your family over the course of the school year. I will be the point of contact for all things elementary.
As we open the school year, please know that we remain steadfast in our goal to provide your child with the best educational experience possible. Academics as well as the social-emotional learning of our students continue to be our priorities.. Our teachers and staff are excited to start building relationships with your child and making connections with your family for this new school year.
We would like to welcome a few new members to our K-4 family this year. We are fortunate to have these ladies join our team and are excited for you to get to meet them.
Anna Heuts: Kindergarten
Hailey Firmin: 1st Grade
Holly Morgan: 1st Grade IA
Allyson Boykin: :2nd Grade
Hallie Stewart: 3rd Grade
Open House: July 25 (Grades 1 - 4) – Our Open House will be on campus from 4:00-5:30, and we invite all families to attend. (At 5:30, open house will end and all families will be asked to exit the building; be sure you arrive in plenty of time to get to meet the teacher before the conclusion of open house.) The format will be floating meaning you pick the time you are here. Remember that this is a time to meet teachers, visit the campus, and see peers. It is not a time for individual conferences. You can schedule those with your child’s teacher at a later date. You will not receive your child's homeroom teacher information until open house. If you are unable to attend open house, you may call the school on Tuesday, July 26th to find out who your child’s teacher is. Please note: Kindergarten open house is on a different day/time. Information has already been sent separately to K families.
Carpool: Carpool opens at 7:40 am and our buildings open at 7:45 am. All students need to be on campus by 8:10 am and in their classroom by 8:15 am to start their day. All students grades 1-4 must use the carpool line for drop off (Kinder is different for staggered entry–please follow kinder information sent separately). Detailed carpool information will come in later messages. You will receive carpool tags at the Open House. Carpool has not had any significant changes, but please remember to check your arrival times and be patient as it usually takes a week or two to smooth things out! Please see 2 attached carpool documents. Carpool Release Times. Carpool Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures.
Uniforms: Please review the uniform policy located on our website (https://5il.co/1cjpe). This policy was updated in June, so please read carefully. Students must be in dress code beginning on the first day. Dress code will be a priority this year so please ensure your child adheres to the guidelines daily beginning on the first day of school.
Supply Lists: Please see website – posted under the parent tab.
WINGS: Please see website-posted under the more tab.
COVID: Please see attached COVID information for families.
First Day: Our first day is July 27 and we need 100% attendance on the first day. Attendance is a huge part of our funding, and we need you on-campus on day 1!
First Day Parade: Grades 1-4 ONLY: Kindergarten students/parents do NOT participate due to staggered entry. Grade 1-4 parents are invited to attend the First Day of School Parade on Wednesday, July 27th. Weather permitting, line up along the sidewalk outside of K-4 by 8:30 am. Students will exit from the dining hall, by class, walk down the sidewalk, and enter the building through the front entrance of the K-4 building. Feel free to cheer students on, make signs, or have noise makers to get students excited about the first day as they make the walk along the sidewalk. Once you drop your child off in carpool, please leave campus due to limited parking/space on campus. You may return at 8:20 to park and then line up for the parade. The parade does not start until 8:30.
Communication: While HS and Middle Academy send out daily announcements, this is not something needed in K-4 as we do not have athletics/club announcements that need to be sent daily. We also do not want to flood your inbox with too many emails. As students are in a homeroom in elementary and spend most of their day with 1 or 2 teachers, we allow information to be communicated directly from homeroom teachers in their weekly email. At times, like this email, there may be all K-4 parent emails; however, this will not be a daily occurrence. With that being said, you can always reach out should you have questions or need assistance.
Substitutes: EWA is currently accepting applications for Substitute Teachers for the 22/23 school year. If you are interested, please email blloyd@eastwakeacademy.org for more information.
Each year, we have a hashtag and for this year it is #EWA25 as we celebrate our 25th anniversary. We know that our students, staff, and parents working together is what makes EWA strong. I’m looking forward to a fantastic 2022-2023 school year! Please remember, the EWA Parent Resource Page is not an official EWA page and is not monitored by EWA staff. Do not hesitate to reach out directly with questions.
